Below are some famous faces you're sure to know. They are not the only faces you'll know, but they are certainly among them. These are the "celebrities" of The Shelves who are not covered elsewhere on this site. Among them are politicians, television stars, and other Shelf-Dwellers of exceptional renown. This list is by no means exhaustive, but each face portrayed below is common knowledge. Who knows? Maybe some day your face will be here as well (that's not neccessarily a good thing.)
Darren PD and the Firefighter are the stars and title characters of the most popular television program, "Darren PD and the Firefighter." Although the show airs seemingly at random, most shelf-dwellers stop whatever they're doing to watch until the show's conclusion.
The show follows the trials and tribulations of the title characters as they strive to balance their personal life with a life of public service. Darren PD plays the part of a police officer. The Firefighter fights fires (he also does this in real life.) Darren PD also has a love interest, a doctor played by Judith Light. Much of the non-action oriented dramatic tension on the show is created by the jealousy Judith feels because of the amount of time Darren spends with The Firefighter instead of her.
Darren PD is a handsome heartthrob and very cool. The Firefighter is more of a salt of the earth type who you can relate to.
D'Wayne Cabbage is not so much famous as infamous. He is a gregarious wildman who's been arrested for many petty crimes- including theft, vandalism, and brawling.
Gee Trevlovich is a famous explorer. Not only has he purportedly visited and survived The Tablelands on numerous occasions, but he is the only known person to have ventured into the lower shelves and returned to tell a tale. Rumor has it he's actually touched the sea water which all can see far below.
Generally, after some great adventure, Gee will have a television special- complete with dancers- which features him boasting of his latest excursion. He is also an author, photographer, and a fabulous dancer. Whatmore, his paintings fetch a high price at most auctions.
Herben Fisher has been running for Eternal Emperor for as long as anyone can remember. Election after election he tries to win, only to be solidly trounced by Malcolm or, more recently, W Hawk.
He is a quiet, soft-spoken man, with intelligent eyes marked by sadness. His platform tends to rely on an intricate tax-system and a disproportional sharing of resources.
Herben also serves as rector for The Church of the Semi-Infinite Light.
Malcolm has been a shelf-dweller longer than anyone and seemingly he was Eternal Emperor for most of that time. No one, save perhaps Malcolm, seems to know who was Emperor before he came on the scene, nor why he did not nominate himself before the last election.
Some speculate that he was weary of the burden of leadership and wanted to retire to his top-shelf estate with his wife, Miyoko. Others speculate that he stepped down because of some secret deal made with W Hawk and his crew of technicians. Regardless, Malcolm now lives in relative peace with Miyoko on the Top Shelf, where they take care of numerous children.
